St Lucia’s Day is 13th December and used to mark the winter solstice under the Julian calendar.  It is especially celebrated in Scandinavia.  Traditionally a young girl wears a crown of candles and a white dress with a red sash.  The festival predates Christianity and coincides with the ancient festival
